LAST WEEKEND OF 2024 : 16th & 17th NOVEMBER
An Intensive Casting Course for Everyone. Silversmiths, Creatives and Jewellery Lovers alike. Come and learn all the different techniques associated with Casting. This is spread over Two days as things will need to go in the kiln to be burnt away/cremated overnight and cast in the morning. Within the Course you’ll learn about:
~ Ring Carving & Lost wax Casting
~ Botanical/Organic & Vacuum Casting
~ Sand Casting
~ Soldering, Filing and Polishing finished pieces
Please wear sensible clothing and Footwear. My workshop is cold and we are playing with molten metal so make sure you dress accordingly. Whatever is comfortable and that you don’t mind getting dirty.
If you can, please bring along with you some small found treasures, collections, beachcombed pieces which you’d like to try and cast.
In the first part of the course we will be preparing pieces for Vacuum Casting, such as wax rings, leaves, flowers, bees and insects. These will be covered in Investment plaster and put in the kiln and burnt away overnight to cast in the morning. Whilst the second part of the course is about Sand Casting. For this the items used ideally are solid so you can imprint the object in the sand, but can be anything that has texture to it. My most successful pieces have been shells, seeds and nuts, but I leave this up to you. If you can, bring a few pieces, so we have a variety of objects to choose from. But don’t worry if you can't find anything. I have a whole workshop full of my own delightful treasures to choose from.
The cost of silver will be an added charge at the end of the course. This is because everyone’s pieces are completely different, some weighing much more than others so all the pieces which you want to keep will be weighed at the end of the course and you will be charged according to the total weight of your chosen pieces. Most people walk away with a minimum of 4/5 pieces.
