Sustainability

Everything I create is made from a place of ethics and recyclability. All my pieces are made only with recycled metals, the Brass being hand-made, smelted by myself to create a similar tone to gold. It's poor man's gold after all. My pieces are made with the soul intention of of being one-offs. No silicon moulds which would enable a manufacture of mass production. From a business model this may be my downfall but from an ethical point of view i try my hardest to not use any plastics within the making process as well as the packaging. The dirty road of consumerism when talking about mass production is a road I'm not willing to take. Nature is my canvas. Every piece is hand-picked and cast so each piece is as it was found in the natural world and there will only ever be one made in existence though a few made of the same family.

Delving into my Practice further so that you can understand the world of Jewellery Making most people create a piece then get a plastic silicon mould made of it so that they can make replicas in wax and mass produce their pieces to their hearts content. My work doesn't do this. Every piece is an individual leaf collected and cast. Nothing can be the same, like in Nature we are all individuals, we may be from the same family but we are all different and unique..

The reason i don’t do this is because not only does it involve the use of plastic but its all about Mass Production, and its Big Corporations and Billy-big-boot Businesses that are the downfall of our Natural world and at the forefront of our problem with Mass Purchases and Shopping. Im a big believer in Shop Local, Shop Small and Support Creatives. I am one of these after all.

Being a Jeweller who’s main material is Silver, Brass and Semi-precious stones all of which are mined out of the ground in a way that can only be described as barbaric. I have to take a step back and be honest within the profession i work in, but for me i try to be as ethical as possible by using only Recycled metals, the Brass which i smelt myself and a process which im continuously learning to create the shiniest colour match to Gold, as brass is poor mans gold after all. Whilst the silver i use to buy as scrap from boot fairs and markets but as a mother of three,  i just dont have the time. Not enough days to to anything on top of being Mum. , but i buy everything as 100% Recycled Silver from Cooksongold online.
