Oak Ogham Birth Spoon (JUNE 10th – JULY 7th)
The Oak, a tree of sovereignty and power. A doorway to inner strength and spirituality, and a symbol of Protection. This tree is also the ultimate symbol of British heritage by its masculinity through power and strength. Even the druids saw its acorns as penises of the Gods and the mistletoe berries as the semen. A truly masculine Tree. The druids worshipped within Ancient Oak groves and are still today sacred sites.
Oak trees. Well these beings are just magnificient. Its because of an Oak Tree that i remained in England and didn’t return to Kenyan soils. The Nonnington Oak also known as her Majesty was an Oak i visited frequently when i was studying at Art college in Kent. She changed over the many years i was there. Storms bringing down limbs and yet she still stood and didn’t topple. You can climb inside her as she is hollow and yet is still a living oak. A magnificent tree, a tree of the fairy folk and a reason which kept me in Kentish lands absorbed by Folklore and Singing, oh the Folk songs you really stole my heart to England.

The Celtic Tree Ogham was created by the Druids as a secret language around 3rd Century CE. The letters were a series of notches or Runes associated with different trees and the first alphabet known to this country. Oghams were used as divination tools. These were sticks from the different trees with the ogham symbol or Rune inscribed on them and when they were thrown on the ground, studying the symbolism of where they fell was an art form that only a druid could read.

Apple ~ The lighter half of the year. May Day to Samhain/Halloween
Blackthorn ~ 31st OCT SAMHAIN & Darker part of the Year. Samhain/halloween to May Day.
Gorse ~ Spring Equinox, MARCH 19th – 21st
Heather ~ Summer Solstice JUNE, 20th – 22nd
Aspen ~ Autumn Equinox SEPT 21st – 24th
Yew ~ Winter Solstice DEC 20th – 23rd
Pine/Mistletoe ~ DEC 23rd – Proverbial ‘Year and a Day’
It wasn’t until the 6th Century when the Roman alphabet pushed out the Ogham Alphabet which is why its not widely known about today.
